Photorefraction-induced Bragg scattering in cryogenic lithium niobate ring resonators

چکیده
We report intracavity Bragg scattering induced by the photorefractive (PR) effect in high- Q lithium niobate ring resonators at cryogenic temperatures. show that when a cavity mode is strongly excited, PR imprints long-lived periodic space-charge field. This residual field turn creates refractive index modulation pattern dramatically enhances back of an incoming probe light, and results selective reconfigurable splittings. PR-induced effect, despite being undesired for many applications, could be utilized to enable optically programmable photonic components.

Recent Advances in the Photorefraction of Doped Lithium Niobate Crystals
The recent advances in the photorefraction of doped lithium niobate crystals are reviewed. Materials have always been the main obstacle for commercial applications of photorefractive holographic storage. Though iron-doped LiNbO3 is the mainstay of holographic data storage efforts, several shortcomings, especially the low response speed, impede it from becoming a commercial recording medium. Thi...
متن کاملIntegrated high quality factor lithium niobate microdisk resonators.
Lithium Niobate (LN) is an important nonlinear optical material. Here we demonstrate LN microdisk resonators that feature optical quality factor ~10(5), realized using robust and scalable fabrication techniques, that operate over a wide wavelength range spanning visible and near infrared. Using our resonators, and leveraging LN's large second order optical nonlinearity, we demonstrate on-chip s...
متن کاملHIGH kt×Q, MULTI-FREQUENCY LITHIUM NIOBATE RESONATORS
This paper presents design and vacuum measurements of lithium niobate (LN) contour-mode resonators (CMR). By carefully positioning the inter-digital transducer (IDT), we achieved CMRs with kt×Q of 7%*2150=148 (IDT @ node) or resonators with very high kt of 12.3% and spur-attenuated response (IDT @ anti-node). In addition, we demonstrated resonators with frequencies ranging from 400MHz to 800MHz...
متن کاملElectro-optical tunable waveguide Bragg gratings in lithium niobate induced by femtosecond laser writing.
We report the fabrication of femtosecond laser-induced, first-order waveguide Bragg gratings in lithium niobate in the low repetition rate regime. Type-II waveguides are written into an x-cut lithium niobate wafer and structured periodically to achieve narrowband reflections at wavelengths around 1550 nm. Additionally, electrodes are employed to allow for electro-optic tuning of the spectral re...
متن کاملElectro-optically tunable microring resonators on lithium niobate.
Electro-optical tuning of a microring resonator fabricated on lithium niobate (LiNbO3) is presented. The device structure, including microring resonator and couplers, is designed in detail and is produced by titanium diffusion on the wet-etched LiNbO3 ridge surface. The resonance wavelengths for TM and TE polarizations can be tuned by electro-optic effect. The output characteristics of through ...
